For the final day of National Walking Month, we’ve rallied up some of the HF Holidays team to tell us about their favourite walks. For some, it was about walking in new holiday destinations while for others it was their local walking route that sparked the most joy.
"I’m a big fan of Mallorca’s GR221 Dry Stone Route, a long-distance path that leads through the UNESCO-listed Tramuntana Mountain range. My favourite bit is the section that leads to Puig de Massanella, the highest climbable peak in the Balearics. It’s a tough walk but on a clear day the summit offers incredible views across the island." Jamie Langley, Copywriter.
"One of my favourite days in Namibia was visiting the sand dunes outside Swakopmund. There was an incredible contrast of golden yellow and blue and not another person in sight. We walked along the top ridge of the dunes, leaving deep footprints behind us. The walk back down took minutes as we slid through the soft sand." Jess Millett, CRM Marketing Manager.
"I’ve been visiting Tatra National Park for several years now and my favourite walk has to be the ascent that leads to the summit of Giewont – 1,894 metres above sea level. Dominated by a huge iron cross, this mighty mountain is said to resemble a sleeping giant, who, according to legend, will awake when Poland is in danger. If I had to describe the Tatras in three words? Dramatic, beautiful, and unforgettable. Don’t forget your camera." Hugh Evans, Field Advisor.
"My favourite walk in this area is in the Schlick Valley where we find one of the seven summits of the Stubai Valley. After taking the cable car to an impressive 2000m, you'll reach the top by way of a short fixed-rope section. Here you’re rewarded with magnificent 360-degree views. On a clear day you’ll even spot the Karwendel and Zillertal mountain ranges." Calvin Yates, Overseas Senior Product Manager.
"I take the coastal path from St Ives to Lelant and back. It’s a peaceful walk with views right across the bay looking towards the north coast. With the beaches, the dunes, and the little villages, the scenery along this walk is stunning. Not many people walk this route, so you're able to stroll at your own pace and sit and reflect along the way." Wayne Leslie, Chy Morvah House Manager.
"I really enjoyed walking around the Isle of Wight last year on a weekend trip with my boyfriend. There are so many great little hidden spots, well worth heading off the beaten track for. After getting up early one morning we were lucky enough to discover the Devil’s Chimney rock path and have it all to ourselves." Megan Winzer, Marketing Executive.
"I had my first visit to Coniston over Easter and enjoyed a wonderful sunny walk at Tarn Hows. Although it was only a short route of around 2.5km, being bathed in early spring sunshine made it especially pretty. The path is fully accessible, so it was refreshing to see a few wheelchair users enjoying the paths too." Jo Morse, Guest Relations Executive.
"Northumberland is a perfect place to get away from it all. From Nether Grange, our country house in Alnmouth, you can walk out onto a beautiful sandy beach and head north for miles along the coast. I love hearing the soothing sound of sea and the wind feels like it blows my troubles away. Try this walk in spring or early winter." Jackson Griffiths, Customer Success Executive.
