Whether you want to form new friendships or you’re simply seeking time to yourself, the UK is packed full of attractions and experiences that are a real eye-opener for solo travellers. From the wild Scottish Highlands to the stunning Cornish coast, we’ve lined up a list of our favourite holidays for those going it alone.
If meeting like-minded people is high on your wish list, there’s nothing like setting out on a shared adventure to break the ice. Our all-new challenge holidays allow you to conquer some of the UK’s highest peaks with the help of our experienced HF Holidays leaders. The lofty summit of Ben Nevis has long beckoned walkers and embarking on the tough-but-rewarding trek to the top of Britain’s biggest mountain together is a surefire way to form new and long-lasting friendships. Best of all, you’ll stay at our cosy country house in the Scottish Highlands – the ideal spot to warm up with a wee dram or two and swap stories of the day’s events.

Designed to help you become the writer you want to be, our creative writing and walking breaks are perfect for both absolute beginners and budding authors looking to build their skills, style, and confidence. In the stunning surrounds of our country houses you’ll enjoy group writing workshops where you can share ideas and inspiration with fellow learners, plus one-to-one sessions with a published author. This is combined with guided walks in the inspiring landscapes of the English countryside. Ideal for a solo trip, these holidays are available in the Cotswolds and the Southern Lake District.

For peace and solitude on your solo holiday, there’s nothing quite like a seaside escape - and few places beat Cornwall for an enchanting backdrop. We offer breaks on both sides of the Cornish coast. In the west, our property in St Ives overlooks St Ives Bay and is just steps from the town’s cobbled streets, art galleries, and beautiful beaches – an ideal base for coastal strolls and sightseeing. If your seeking new friends, then on the opposite side of the county, our South East Cornwall Guided Walking holiday is wonderful for spending time in the charming harbour town of Looe and exploring the best of the coastline as part of a group.

Poetry and nature fans will be in their element exploring the Somerset landscape that inspired the poet, Samuel Taylor Coleridge. The Coleridge Way Trail takes you along open moorland, heather-clad hills, historic villages, and wooded valleys with stop-and-stare views over the Exmoor coast. Plus, you’ll discover places that inspired the poet to pen famous works including The Rime of the Ancient Mariner and the epic ballad, Kubla Khan. Solo travellers will be in good company, too, with fellow literature enthusiasts as your walking and dining companions.

Snowdonia forms much of the backdrop to the Meirionnydd Coast Path so you’ll never be short of stunning landscapes to chat about with your fellow travellers. As part of a guided walking group, you’ll also complete some of the most wow-worthy sections of the Wales Coast Path, walking from Penrhyndeudraeth to Aberdyfi and into the rolling countryside around Machynlleth. Stay at our characterful Victorian manor house at the southern end of Snowdonia (Eryri) National Park where you can opt to spend evenings socialising with other group members or simply relaxing with a good book.
