Welcome to the Hotel Occidental Roca Negra. Unpack and settle in.
Visit Parque Rural de Doramas, which has one of the last strongholds of laurel forest in Gran Canaria. We finish our day with a visit to one of the most charming and typically Canarian villages, Teror.
Walk on the rim of Caldera de Tejeda to the village of Cruz de Tejeda. Take in the impressive volcanic scenery and discover the striking rocky outcrop of Roque Nublo.
Ascend the foothills of Tamadaba Natural Park and the 'Sacred Mountains', finishing in the coffee plantations of the Agaete Valley.
Today is a perfect opportunity to relax at the hotel and make the most of its facilities, including the outdoor swimming pool, wellness centre, and roof terrace. You may also choose to enjoy a leisurely walk or explore the local area at your own pace.
If you plan to visit nearby places of interest, please keep in mind that most shops and supermarkets will be closed due to the public holiday on 25 December 2026. However, some restaurants in key tourist areas may remain open. Christmas Day in the Canary Islands is typically a quieter occasion, centred around family time following the main celebrations on Christmas Eve.
Suggested Places to Visit:
Las Palmas de Gran Canaria: Take the bus to the island’s capital, Las Palmas. This vibrant port city is known for its UNESCO-listed old quarter and its expansive sandy beaches. Wander through its charming side streets and enjoy a relaxed lunch or tapas at one of the many cafés.
Playa de La Aldea: Travel by bus to this peaceful resort on the western side of the island. Its long stretch of pebble beach is lined with bars and restaurants, offering a scenic and tranquil spot to unwind.
Visit the impressive province of La Aldea in the west of Gran Canaria. Take in the views from Degollada de Tasarte and climb Montaña del Viso, or traverse the valley below.
Enjoy the viewpoints over the Canarian pines and Caldera at Moriscos and Pinos de Gáldar before continuing to Caideros.
We hope to see you again soon.
Easier Walks
Good paths but walks are a bit longer. Some walks, particularly in mountain areas, may have sections over rough or steeper terrain.
Medium Walks
Long distances in remote countryside and on rough terrain. You can expect some sustained ascents and descents; there may be occasional sections of scree and steep ground.
Whilst staying at the hotel guests can enjoy:
Our holidays in Gran Canaria are on a half-board basis and include breakfast and evening meal.
Breakfast is served in Restaurante El Juncal and there is an extensive selection of hot and cold options from a self-select buffet.
Ingredients for packed lunches can be purchased in nearby Agaete and stored in the fridge in your room. On some days it may be possible to eat out at local cafes; your leaders will advise you of the best options.
Dinner is also served in Restaurante El Juncal. A large and impressive buffet with a huge range of appetizers, at least 4 options of main course and a mouth-watering dessert section including a range of cheeses.
The Roca Negra features 140 spacious and contemporary rooms. All rooms feature:
Before booking, you should check with your doctor to see whether any health precautions are needed for your trip. Health advice and requirements can change, so we recommend doing this in good time before travel.
As a general rule, travellers should ensure they are up to date with routine UK vaccinations and boosters, including, for example, MMR and diphtheria, tetanus and polio. Some countries may require you to have specific vaccinations such as Malaria, Rabies and Yellow Fever. Please check with your GP if you are unsure.
Please note that the use or possession of some common prescription or over-the-counter medicines is restricted or banned in certain countries. If you will be carrying medication, you should check with the relevant embassy or consulate before travelling. As an extra precaution, we recommend keeping medication in its original packaging, carrying a copy of your prescription, and, where possible, asking your pharmacist to provide the medication name in the language of the country you are visiting.
For further country-specific health advice, visit www.fitfortravel.nhs.uk or www.traveldoctor.co.uk. If you are travelling from outside the UK, please consult your own doctor and check local entry requirements.
This information is for those travelling with a full ‘British Citizen’ passport; for all other nationalities or passport holders, please check with your local consulate for advice.
This information applies to travellers holding a full British Citizen passport. Entry requirements vary by destination and can change at short notice. For most EU and worldwide destinations, passports must be valid for the entire duration of your stay. Some countries also require a minimum period of validity remaining on your passport (often up to 6 months beyond your return date), even if you are not staying that long.
We strongly recommend ensuring your passport has at least six months’ validity remaining at the time of travel to avoid any issues.
If you hold a different type of British passport or a passport issued by another country, you must check the requirements with the relevant embassy, consulate, or official government website.
Visa rules depend on your nationality, destination, length of stay, and purpose of travel, and they can change frequently. It is your responsibility to check whether you require a visa before travelling.
British passport holders should check the latest entry, passport validity and visa requirements for their destination on the UK government’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) website:
