It takes a special kind of someone to become an HF Holidays Leader. Aside from being passionate about walking, you’ll need to be a great communicator who can work closely and constructively with other leaders as well as our country house teams. You’ll also need to make a minimum commitment to lead for three weeks, every two years.
While previous experience is not essential, we’d like our HF Holidays leaders to be:
- Friendly and approachable
- Reliable, punctual, and well organised
- Cheery on the greyest and wettest of days
- Sensitive to the needs of others
- Confident to speak in front of small groups
- Welcoming, especially to new walkers
- An excellent navigator with knowledge of map-reading
- Able to use a compass
- Experienced in walking the types of landscapes they want to lead in
- Fit enough to lead five full-day walks in a week
- Confident to lead a walk without having covered the route previously
