On 5 November 1913, our founder, Thomas Arthur Leonard, officially registered the Holiday Fellowship as a company, and HF Holidays was born.

As a co-operative, HF Holidays is governed by a board of 12 volunteer directors who are elected by the Society’s members. You can find out more about them on our website here.

This board sets the strategic direction of the company and is made up of members who have a passion for walking holidays in the UK, Europe, and beyond. Collectively, it aims to reflect the interests and background of the wider membership.

Long-standing leader, Chris Steel, has published a book about HF Holidays Leaders throughout the company's 110-year history. Inspired by conversations with fellow leaders, Leading The Way is a fascinating story that includes Olympic athletes, epic overnight journeys, and the personal memories and experiences of leaders going back 75 years.

The book features interviews with more than 70 leaders – the first of whom began in 1947, the most recent in 2016. It also boasts wonderful photographs and documents from both archive material and individual collections. Explore the history of leading for HF Holidays over the decades with a 400-page tale that’s as entertaining and informative as it is enlightening.
